Grand Tour - Cambridge Memorial Hospital
Apr. 20, 2018
We will have a guided tour of the "new" Cambridge Memorial Hospital. Please be aware this is an active construction site with no access to elevators so there will be plenty of stair climbing. For the ladies: wear long pants; skirts or bare legs are not allowed. Work boots and hard hats are mandatory and will be supplied by the hospital. This is a great tour as the hospital is near completion and you will have an opportunity to see the new operating rooms, maternity area, emergency department and much more before it is open to the public. |

May 04, 2018
If 95% of what we learn comes from our eyes and ears, imagine what it must be like to be deafblind. For the deafblind, a simple touch can lead to endless possibilities. Individuals who are deafblind have the capacity to build their life skills, gain independence and contribute to the greater community with the support of professionally trained Intervenors who use the sense of touch to help them communicate. Founded in 1989, DeafBlind Ontario Services helps individuals who are deafblind increase their independence and improve their quality of life through specialized services.

A Simple Solution to the Global Health Problem of Iron Deficiency
Sep. 21, 2018
Anaemia is the most common and widespread nutritional disorder in the world, affecting 30 percent of the world’s population. But Canadian scientists have come up with an ingenius solution, and it’s so simple, it fits in the palm of your hand. Meet a chunk of iron that will give adults 75 percent of their daily recommended iron intake, and close to 100 percent for kids. The idea came to University of Guelph public health researcher, Christopher Charles, during a trip to Cambodia six years ago, when he realized how widespread anaemia was. He saw the disorder was stunting the children’s development and leaving the women so tired they were unable to work. |
