The Centre for Family Medicine Family Health Team, Kitchener, Ontario Dr Upender (Upe) Mehan is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario and completed his family medicine residency at Queen’s University. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor with McMaster University and Adjunct Clinical Professor at Western University, in their departments of family medicine. He works at the Centre for Family Medicine in Kitchener Ontario where he runs a team-based Type 2 team Diabetes consultation clinic and is involved in his passion for clinical teaching of students and residents. He has received several awards including the Preceptor of the Year and Excellence in Teaching for the McMaster family medicine residency program, McMaster’s DeGroote School of Medicine Excellence in Mentorship Award, and the Award of Excellence from the Ontario College of Family Physicians. He has been involved in the development and delivery of various Continuing Medical Education programs for both the Ontario College of Family Physicians and private industry. He also appeared on the weekly CTV show Dr. Marla and friends from July 2012 to June 2013 with a medical myth-busting segment. As well, he has been involved with volunteer work both locally and internationally, including working for The Bridges in Cambridge, doing mental health outreach work in Guyana and working with a Palliative care team working with underprivileged people in New Delhi, India.

John Lomax Bio John is a career Banker having worked for CIBC (35 years), BDC (1 year) and Scotiabank. (12 years). He has been a member of the Rotary Club of Brampton since 1985.During that period, he served in numerous capacities within the club. He was a member of the Board of Directors for ten years during which time he was Club Treasurer and eventually President in 2000/01. Subsequently, he joined the District Youth Exchange Committee and was devoted to this for about ten years as Brampton Rep, Vice President/Asia and Committee Chair for three years. He received the Paul Harris Award and the YMCA Peace Prize for his work in Youth Exchange and his work with ex convicts and homeless men. In the latter respect, he was on the Board of Directors of St Leonard’s Place Peel for 25 years. During that period, he was Treasurer for 10 years and Chair for 10 years. St Leonard’s Place began its life as a traditional half way house, developing into a community that served and supported men in conflict. During John’s tenure, he helped others to grow the organization from an 18 bed facility to one that housed over 100 men. Since he was young he has had a fascination with the amazing people that we share this land with.

District Membership Webinar #2
The District Membership Committee is presenting its second webinar for this Rotary year on Thursday, January 14th, 2021 at 7 p.m. via Zoom.
The topic will be “Growing Rotary Through Transformation”.
We all know that Rotary needs to grow in our District and that “the same old” isn’t going to do it. Tracy Vavrek, PDG for District 5370 and Zone 28 & 32 Innovative Club Advocate is our keynote presenter sharing a number of new growth ideas and her passion for transforming the Rotary experience, following which there will be a number of question specific breakout sessions.

Join us as Devon Hogue discusses the opportunities and challenges of filming on location in the City of Cambridge. Find out what shows have filmed locally, how Economic Development attempts to balance the needs of the community with the wants of the industry, what type of impact this has on our city, and how the film team ensures a production company gets their perfect shot. BIOGRAPHY: Devon Hogue is a community builder, supporter and cheerleader from Cambridge. She has been an enthusiastic municipal professional for almost 20 years - 14 of which were spent within the Clerks Division before moving into Economic Development. Devon is currently employed as the Business Information Officer for the City of Cambridge, where she specializes in municipal film program development, coordination and promotion. She has studied Economic Development at the University of Waterloo, Leadership Development with Conestoga College and Municipal Administration through the Association of Municipal Clerks and Treasurers of Ontario (AMCTO). Dedicated to lifelong learning, Devon is currently studying digital marketing through McMaster University. Devon is passionate about her community, building positive relationships and experiences within it, and watching the burgeoning film industry grow throughout Ontario.
