Rotary Donation to Cambridge Food Bank
Cambridge Food Bank representatives Dianne McLeod and Jenn German-Wright joined Rotary Cambridge Sunrise on November 18th with an update on programs & services in the community.

The Cambridge Food Bank first opened its doors in 1985 in response to a severe economic recessions. Currently, it serves the City of Cambridge and the Township of North Dumfries, which together have a population of 145,000 people.

Deeply rooted in the communities they serve and support people to access healthy food and opportunity. In its downtown Galt location, and with satellites in Hespeler, Preston, and Ayr, they operate a variety of programs for our neighbours including emergency food assistance and their unique Mobile Food Market.

Seeing people holistically, they are distinctly, “more than a food bank,” supporting people through outreach, a weekly community meal, partnering with community gardens, and wellness programming for the whole family.

While supporting 500-600 families per month in the summer months, the need increases to 1200-1600 families in the winter months, and peaks in December with over 2000 families seeking assistance.

Rotary Cambridge Sunrise was pleased to present a $3,000.00 cheque to the Cambridge Food Bank.

Programs at Cambridge Food Bank range from community gardens, mobile food market, selling preserves at the farmer's market, kin club, youth outreach, wellness hub, food & literacy, seed share, food rescue, and kids programs to mention a few.
