Founded in 1973, the Central Ontario Developmental Riding Program (CODRP), known as Pride Stables, has a rich legacy of serving the community. Incorporated in 1974, the program initially operated at Pineview Stables in Shakespeare, leasing facilities to meet growing demand.
In 1988, CODRP relocated to its current home on Pioneer Tower Road in Kitchener, a property lovingly named Pride Stables. Today, Pride Stables is the only therapeutic riding program serving Kitchener-Waterloo, Cambridge, and the surrounding region.
With an expansive facility that includes a 30-stall barn, an indoor riding arena, and 20 acres of land, they provide therapeutic riding opportunities to over 350 children and adults with disabilities each year.
Currently home to 24 horses in total, some still riding, and others are enjoying retirement. Each rider has at least 1 volunteer accompanying them, sometimes up to 3 when necessary. For this reason, dedicated volunteers are an absolute must for the program. Volunteers must be at least 15 years old, but no horse experience is necessary. Pride Stables offers training, and the opportunity to develop meaningful and rewarding relationships with horses and riders alike.
With veterinarian and feed costs contributing to a large overhead, donations and community support are always welcome, with lots of activities available.
